Every deck tool on The Black Grimoire — the builder, optimizer, Deck Doctor, collection and decks — is free for every player, uncapped. Its costs are covered by donations and, now, by optional paid plans that raise the monthly allowance of AI deck consults; a donation itself stays optional and nothing is gated behind one.
Three ongoing costs keep the site running: the VPS that serves the build engine and the deck catalogue, the scraping infrastructure that keeps the corpus of 4,678,606 decklists current, and the compute used to retrain the recommendation model on that schedule — the collaborative-filtering model after every 50,000 new decks, and the reranking bandit every 6 hours.
None of that spend is discretionary marketing or salary — it is server bills and the time it takes one developer to keep the data fresh. A donation goes directly toward keeping the corpus growing rather than going stale.
