The Black Grimoire is free for every player and provides no paid tier, so its costs are covered by donations rather than a subscription. A donation is optional and nothing on the site is gated behind one, now or planned for later.
Three ongoing costs keep the site running: the VPS that serves the build engine and the deck catalogue, the scraping infrastructure that keeps the corpus of 3,996,039 decklists current, and the compute used to retrain the recommendation model on that schedule — the collaborative-filtering model after every 50,000 new decks, and the reranking bandit every 6 hours.
None of that spend is discretionary marketing or salary — it is server bills and the time it takes one developer to keep the data fresh. A donation goes directly toward keeping the corpus growing rather than going stale.
